The Captain

David Welsh

The Man, the myth, the owner of the Jolly Sailor Brewery. David came from an electrical background and had no knowledge of operating and running a brewery. However, his father was a keen home brewer and his earliest memories are of the fermenting pot bubbling over with yeasty foam.

At his father’s wake all the guests were treated to a glass of his final brew. Shortly after, the Jolly Sailor Inn at Cawood (where David lived) came up for sale. His idea was to make this into a Brew Pub. This proved a challenge too far and the brewery has ended up at its current location in Selby.

The First Mate

Gemma Bishop

As the Step-Daughter of the Captain, it was only natural that Gemma would find herself aboard this beer making vessel. Bringing an organised mind and the determination to see the Brewery flourish, Gemma ensured that all cogs and gears were well lubricated and the engines kept on chugging. Not only skilled in the Admin of the Brewery, Gemma would occasionally man the beer making itself, creating excellent beer and help upkeep its high quality.

Kris Hibbert

The Master of the Brew, Kris was brought on to take charge and maintain the high quality of beer the Jolly Sailor produces, while constantly looking to improve processes and create the best beer around. A self proclaimed "brewing genius", Kris constantly strives to produce top quality beer that everyone will love and push the brewery in many flavourful directions as he can before we all crash and sink to the beery depths.

The driving force behind our delivery team is the man called Grant, ferrying our beer Tuesday-Friday. Without our dedicated driver, we wouldn't be able to run at the capacity we do today, as he ensures all the beer we sell is shipped to our customers promptly and as hassle free as possible.
